26 months
Joel is 26 months and weighs 12kg. He was sick lately and lost some weight. Joel is starting to speak a little bit more than his baby language. Now, it's 2-3 words each time! Cracks us up when he tries to tell us something more... ;)

we're back!
We're back, we're back! The SIN-SHA flight back was quite terrible due to some last minute hiccups...we had to trade our SQ afternoon tickets for China Eastern midnight flight, first time i sat on an aircraft and actually felt so hot and perspired, only takeoff & landing have aircon, plus the very strong fuel smell made me and Elvis felt sick and i actually vomited on board, arriving in Shanghai at 6am plus an hour journey home, and catching up on sleep asap till Elvis wakes up for work again... The flight back was so terrible we're still jet-lagged... (As compensation, the china travel agency said they're going to upgrade us the next time we fly i.e. Business Class! Wheee~ We shall see...)
But now, i'm just too glad to be in our 'home' away from home.
I sure missed having (free) internet connection as and when i like... I'll be getting all your updates from your blogs and photos...

cocktail medicine
Joel is refusing to take his medicine...
Even the usual Yakult bottle trick is not working. I've tried mixing the medicine with real Yakult and milo... All doesnt work... :(
He's also not drinking much water now and has constipation as a result...

high fever
Joel developed a fever 2 days ago. He's still active and happy in the day, but he cant sleep well at night.
Last night, his fever didnt subside (even after taking the 6-hourly paracetamol). We tried to sponge him and eventually called Parkway Health 24-hour hotline at 4am. The telephone operator advised us to go down and see their family doctor (not paediatrician). We quickly woke up and changed. Fortunately, RuiJin hospital (where Parkway Health is housed) is only 5-minutes away by car.
All of us were wrapped like dumplings with an extra layer of clothing - complete with beanies and scarves. We even brought along a blanket to wrap Joel like the locals do. But we didnt use it becoz he was already too bulky to be carried comfortably (and we were very bulky too). Joel was still active and "talkative" throughout - at home and at the clinic. He was well-behaved except when the doctor wanted to check the insides of his mouth. Managed a quick look, and his tonsils was a little inflamed.
When we reached, Joel's temperature was 39.6˚C. He was given medication and we had to wait 30 minutes for the doctor to monitor him again. It went down to 39˚C and we could go home. The bill came up to ¥1900/approx S$400!!! (There was an additional charge of ¥1000 at night)
We were home by 5.30am and slept immediately - not soundly but with more peace-of-mind.
Here's pictures of Joel playing at the clinic during that 30-minutes wait for the medication to take effect. Joel was also given a sticker (pasted on his sweater) and the boy kinda looked like him! ;)
Unrelated Thoughts:
There were 4 people at the clinic (on duty that night) - 1 receptionist cum cashier, 1 nurse, 1 pharmacist and 1 doctor. 3 were Chinese except the doctor was Filipino.
Elvis was so convinced they were sleeping before we arrived (and that they were on standby). When i called the hotline to book an appointment, i was asked what time we will reach, and i replied, 'Within 30 minutes'. When we left, the receptionist/cashier locked the door immediately and Elvis said they're going back to sleep. If it's indeed true, it meant their sleeping quarters is inside the clinic. It sounds weird to me although it also doesnt make much sense that clinics here are opened 24-hours. Then, when i said, "No lah...the operator is Filipino leh...spoke Filipino-accent English." Then he said, "It must be that Recep lah!" ...or maybe the doctor! Hahaha... ;p
Anyway, i'm sure the operator manning the hotline is so NOT the doctor.

eat & shop a lot
Saturday, after Joel's MiKids class we had breakfast at Dunkin' Donuts and headed straight to Gymboree's Art Class. What an early start to the weekends! Class-after-class... -.-lll
(Joel moved up one level at Gymboree and we changed his Sunday class to Saturday 4pm. Then, we wont have to rush to classes on both days. IF there's a vacancy for the 11.15am class, we'll change to the earlier class. This first week, we were LUCKY! The timing was just right and we could go home to rest too!)
Joel likes painting on the wall (on the paper) more than most of the other activities at Art Class. It's obvious that his strokes are small and careful. The other kids' paintings were in much bigger strokes...all over the place. He's saying "WOWO" (yellow) below.
Here's another project - The Circus - which was done mostly by the parents. It was a little difficult...coz the animal stamps were too big and the ice-cream sticks were too close.
We went to XTD Afternoon Tea for lunch and tried their new pastas. My all-time-fav Flying Roe pasta no more... :_( Elvis had the duck pasta while i had the (seasonal) creamy chicken/potato pasta. Both was pretty good...but i still missed my fav pasta!
We went home to rest... Daddy Elvis slept, Joel played with his toys and Mommy Jo baked some muffins using paper drinking cups.
...using Betty Crocker's instant mix. It was too slipshod on my part coz i estimated the "cups" of water, oil and eggs. Hahaha... The muffins came out in different shapes and sizes...but they taste alright. Not yummy considering it has Hershey's choco bits inside, but they're edible. Really. ;)
We went to XJH Sushi Tei for dinner and here's Joel playing with the wet tissue. Quite funny. And as usual, the waitresses there came to chat Joel up. He's very popular here! Keke... ;p

Sunday, we decided to go to Pudong! (We live in Puxi) The very huge Super Brand Mall. We shopped till it was time to go home to watch the Australian Open Mens Final (which made us late for our dinner appointment).
We had Japanese BBQ dinner with a big group of friends somewhere in Gubei (not as nice as 食特美 and double the price). After that, we went to Raymond/Carol's house and Joel tortured their 2 cats HeiHei & HuaHua. Joel wanted to pet the cats (but he was very rough lah)...and he also insisted the poor cats sat down beside him on the floor. Both cats were so scared of Joel that they ran and hid. Haha! ;p
