28 months

Joel is 28 months. He weighs about 12.5kg and stands at (only) 90cm. He seems to be growing cuter each day! I think it's his girlish hair. HAHA! ;p

feeling sick

Yesterday, i vomited my lunch-to-supper.
This is the worse i felt since... :_(

Maybe i've been feeling too frustrated becoz Ahyi doesnt have any initiative and is kinda "silly" too. Eg. When i asked her to go over to make the bed (i.e. spread the bedsheets) for ONE of the bed, she said, "The bed in the guest room, right?". She sounded sooo confident that she was right!

I put most of the things (on the bookshelf) into shopping bags and asked her to move them over first (before we move the actual bookshelf over today). I needed to tell her to line them up against a wall which we're not going to place any furnishing. Similarly, i put all the things in the kitchen into shopping bags and she moved them over yesterday afternoon. When i went over 10 minutes later - wanting to unpack and place them into the empty cabinets - i realized that she just chucked ALL THE BAGS into the kitchen cabinets - anyhow she liked!??!! Why didnt she think that we need to unpack and categorize them before storing them inside the cabinets?!! Arrgh...

Today, friends are coming to help us move the bulkier items over to the new house next door. Hope i wont feel sick again...

the revelation

I just found out from Yeyent's blog that she's pregnant and she's so happy there were tears of joy! WOW! That's intense! It made me feel guilty and embarrassed i actually felt sad about being pregnant.

Yes, you didnt read wrongly. I felt sad, unexcited, unhappy... Basically all the bad feelings. Although we had told LOTS of people about it, i do not wish to be congratulated (until i was sure of it myself that i AM happy). That feeling never came. And if you knew that i cried for more than one week - feeling undecided about the bean baby in me - i'll probably be condemned as a terrible mom.

I wrote this (below) about 2 months ago and i also didnt feel like posting it. It was more for myself to write down what i felt. I could choose to delete it or post it at a later time. Anyway, most of the people whom we care about and read this blog already knew that we're having another baby. So it didnt matter to me who knew and who didnt. I still wasnt ready to be congratulated.

Here's what i wrote:
We found out a few days before we left Singapore. The revelation came as a BIG SHOCK (!!!!!) to us and we didnt know what/how to react. I wasnt happy and Elvis was stunned although he kept his cool and said perhaps it's fate.

Somehow, i've been "feeling pregnant" for a week with an extremely larger (than my usual) tummy and i told Elvis i could be pregnant. Elvis even asked me "Whose?". I had not even missed my menses yet. I just "felt" that i was pregnant. One day, we decided to buy the pregnancy test kit on our way to the lasik clinic for our 2nd review in the afternoon. There were 2 kinds and we bought the more expensive one becoz we needed to be VERY SURE. (These things actually cost a lot cheaper in Shanghai...maybe something like 5 bucks!) After the review, he bugged me to go use the toilet again. I opened the box and read the instructions. It was simple. Pee onto the tip of the indicator and place it on a flat surface for 1 minute. 1 line is negative. 2 lines is positive.

The second i started peeing onto the indicator, i could already see TWO red lines! It's that instant! This cannot be happening! And my lasik-perfected eyes are working fine. I continued to place the indicator on the toilet-roll holder for 1 minute, hoping that perhaps it will change to 1 red line. I know it sounds silly...

I quickly booked an appointment with my gynae in Singapore that same day. It was a walk-in appointment and we had to wait till 5pm to hear him confirm the news. I kept saying, "O no, o no..." when i saw the black dot. He assured us that it's a good thing and he didnt regret having his third & youngest daughter even in his late 40s. (She is 6 years old now and brings him much joy whenever he goes home.) But i think it's definitely good news to him coz i'm bringing him more business, right?!!!

Anyway, after the news had settled in, we still felt lost. Despite what friends and family said that 'Kids are gifts from God' etc etc... ultimately, i want to feel that i'm having the baby becoz i really want to have him/her. I'm worried about having to change our lifestyle, how my body is going to react/change, and not being able to look after Joel the best that i can from now on. Joel is still such a "baby" and i might not even be able to do simple things like to carry him from now. The thought of it makes me very sad... With 2 kids, it's definitely NOT going to be easy...especially in Shanghai where the standard of living is so high. I checked a few maternity packages here with really exorbitant prices (which can pay for 6-7 maternity packages, deliver 4 or more babies by C-section and deliver lots more babies by natural birth in Singapore) and i'm even more certain that i do not want to go through with this. It's has been a mental struggle for the past one week. Plus already feeling the "side effects" of pregnancy, it made it worse for me. I feel awful...

BUT we've decided to have this baby and i pray that God will guide me through this second pregnancy and i believe that He will provide for our family.

Joel will be almost 3 years old when his little brother/sister is born in October... Countdown with us and keep us in your prayers. ;)

plus one

If you noticed the turning baby on the top right, your eyes arent playing tricks on you. We're having another baby!

This is not news to most of our dearest friends becoz we shared it with a whole bunch of people as soon as we found out. Everyone was happy and excited for us - except ourselves (okay, especially me). Now, i'm ok...and feel happier when i saw the baby in the previous checkup. But being an overaged mom is really taking its toll on me and my body...

Will write more next time about the new baby and post some of his/her ultrasound scans (as soon as i'm feeling much better)...

joel's alphabet song

Joel at 27 months

rainy sunday

Daddy Elvis is away in Goa, India. It's beautiful and sunny and he has a big room (with an outdoor open-air shower) in a lovely resort. We're so jealous we're still in this cold cold place...and it's raining heavily now as i type.

Mommy Jo & Joel stayed home yesterday watching Joel's 101 DVDs, playing with cars and munching on biscuits. Today, i decided not to be lazy and bring Joel to his 10am MiKids class! After that, we went to CityShop, the bakery and home...to watch his DVDs, play cars and munch again. Fortunately, it only started to drizzle after Joel's class.

Daddy,
Joel is sooo cute! I finally recorded him singing the ABC song (above) and he helped me call for taxi today too! Even the 7-Eleven ladies said he's so cute! Keke... But as usual, he wants to be carried most of the time. We miss you! See you on Wednesday!

pretzels

Have you tried this pretzels? Snyder's of Hanover They're sooo good you cannot stop munching once you open the little pack. Even Joel loves them - any flavour. They're selling in Singapore at about $3/pack (during promo). My sis Sandra & i always buys them even though they're expensive tidbits.

Recently, i found FreshMart/Sogo selling the little packs at ¥8 (about S$2). When i went to CityShop a week later, i saw this huge box selling at ¥32 (about S$6-7). Of course i couldnt resist buying. That's all of 283.5gms! Finally...something from imported supermarkets that arent that expensive! ;)

Sandra, you must be so jealous of me now! Haha! ;p

on sunny weekends

We were glad Daddy Elvis came back to Shanghai on Saturday night. That means we could go out on Sunday! YEAH! (Mommy Jo is quite useless becoz i cannot manage Joel alone outside - both his weight & his tantrums.)

The weather was good (in the day) and we went to People's Square Garden. We took a stroll to MOCA. It was a "mini exhibition" called Desserts. The artist basically had many many small works - hung in a row, at eye level. There wasnt any specific theme although some of them were of, well, desserts.

Joel & his friends painting on a big piece of paper...

After that, we had dinner at GuBei with our friends at an authentic Japanese restaurant. I forgot the name but it was very yummy! (On the same street as DaJi)

The start of the QingMing holiday (Sat - Mon) and the weather was great! We had lunch at Rendezvous (Singapore food!) becoz Mommy Jo was craving for their sambal kangkong (which we also had on Thursday night). Daddy Elvis ordered the rest of the local delights which he LOVE - bak ku teh & chicken curry.

Joel made this rocket at Gymboree art class. Actually, we helped him lah. ;p

Daddy Elvis went to check out cameras at the photography mall opposite our house. Joel was so happy when he saw this penguin. He even kissed it! So cute, right?

Dinner we went to AhMao becoz Daddy Elvis said that this glutinous rice with crab is very yummy. It was good but too oily (as usual).

It was freezing again on Sunday. We brought Joel to his MiKids class then back home to rest. In the end, we stayed in till dinner time. Didnt know what to eat...so we went to Rendezvous AGAIN for the sambal kangkong!!! I know it sounds rather crazy! Hahaha...

It was a lovely Monday morning - sunny and not freezing. So on this last day of the QingMing holiday, we decided to go to the botanic gardens to see the cherry blossoms! We headed for lunch at XTD first and decided to try Steam (dimsum) since the weather was great for sitting under the sun.

Here's Joel with a sexy pout after his nap... So cute! ;)

At the Shanghai Botanical Garden

Finally, we had dinner with our friends at Yuan Yue (Shanghainese cuisine). Joel performed for everyone by singing his best ABC song - a few times! I'm so proud of him! ;)
