joel take airplane go singapore

We want to make another trip back to Singapore this year before i give birth in October here in Shanghai. We thought of June, then mid-June (becoz i wanted to eat yummy rice dumplings), then late-June...

Now, we've more or less decided to come back during Daddy Elvis' birthday on 14 July! It'll be for just 1 week coz we're reserving more of Daddy's (pathetic) annual leave for when the new baby arrives. Tentatively, we'll be back from 10-18 July (Saturday - following Sunday).

I'm sure Joel is looking forward to take airplane go Singapore! ;)
Joel replies with, "OK, OK, OK".

becky & alynn visit shanghai

27 April - 9 May 2010
Becky & Alynn holiday in Shanghai and visits the Expo 2010...

27-28 April
The girls arrived in the late afternoon on Becky's birthday and we went to TianZiFang 田子坊 before having dinner at XinTianDi 新天地. The next day, we headed to H&M for our 1st-stop shopping followed by crazy wholesale shopping. We ended our hectic day with a lovely dinner at Shintori and finally a stroll to Edison's stylish Juice store.
29-30 April
All of us went to Hangzhou. It was a jinxed holiday - from traveling in an old old car (when it should have been a 7-seater), to only 1 room booked at the hostel, to a minor road accident, to difficulty in getting taxis around Hangzhou. We were all too glad when it was time to leave Hangzhou.

The beautiful West Lake 西湖 where we watched the sunset after we (finally) checked into another hostel...

We had dinner and shopped a bit at the touristy HeFangJie in Hangzhou.

The next day, we managed to book another driver home. This time, in a more comfortable car - but with a driver that drove too carefully (i.e. slowly) and is a little talkative. Next stop...enroute to WuZhen 乌镇 water village before going home.

Home Sweet Home! And just in time to watch the opening ceremony of the Expo 2010 on TV in the evening. We headed for BBQ dinner and home in time (again) to watch the fireworks from our balcony! It was pretty awesome.

1 May
It was the May Day holiday (1-4 May) but Daddy Elvis had to work over the long weekend. So Mommy Jo & Joel only accompanied Becky & Alynn half the day. We had dimsum followed by expensive shopping at ChangLe Road.

2 May
Shopping at XinLe Road... Daddy Elvis joined us for lunch at 3.Top before heading back to the office. Mommy Jo & Joel went home to rest.

3 May
We started the day at Pudong, Super Brands Mall. Daddy Elvis went to the office after lunch. We walked to "the other side of The Bund" and enjoyed some ice cream and the view. (It has started to get warmer, much to our dismay.)

We continued to the People's Square Park and MOCA. Here's Joel's very naughty face at the museum...becoz he wanted to pick the bits of clay (the installation art) from the floor. Somehow, he knew it was 'ART' and didnt dare to touch them. He kept asking Mommy to do it for him. Hahaha...

Daddy Elvis brought us for dinner at DongBeiRenJia 东北人家. Sosuke & wife joined us too. I think the girls will remember the yummy DongBei signature dessert we had. YUM!

4 May
First day of the Expo (with the Standard Day Ticket)! It was a long, tiring and freezing day.
(Pictures later in another post)

5 May
Mommy Jo & Joel took a break while Becky & Alynn went for another round of crazy wholesale shopping since it was raining (on their supposedly 2nd day of Expo), and they explored the artistic DuoLun Road too.

In the morning, Daddy Elvis decided to cut Joel's (girlish) hair before he went to work. Mommy Jo brought Joel to meet Daddy for lunch and we went to the gynae together. After the trip, we think Joel had a better understanding of Mommy's super big tummy. Joel calls it "meimei". *wink*
(But we'll have to wait till next month to confirm the gender of Joel's "meimei")
6 May
The girls continued with their 2nd day to the Expo. They managed to get the very-limited-&-reserved tickets to visit the China pavilion!!! (Distribution of tickets starts at 9am and they're usually snapped up within 20mins) They said the China pavilion was very good, one of the best!

7 May
Alynn went to her final/3rd day at the Expo in the morning. I brought Becky to the cool 1933 building. We met up with Alynn for lunch and did more crazy shopping for her niece. Becky couldnt resist buying some kids clothes too! Busted her budget again. Keke...

8 May
Brunch at the much-anticipated Le Petit Jardin aka The Secret Garden. The "non-set lunches" was a super long wait and Daddy Elvis had to leave for his meeting without his meal. We continued to XuJiaHui...but it was raining and we were all tired. So we went home to rest before dinner. It really felt like a super lazy Saturday. For dinner, Daddy Elvis brought us to YuanShiZhu 元世祖 for the yummy "Mongolian" steamboat.

9 May, Sunday - last day in Shanghai
We had dimsum brunch Crystal Jade (and last minute shopping at H&M) before Becky & Alynn headed for the airport. The rest of the day, Joel & Daddy Mommy went to HuaiHai Road, Sogo and Uncle Yang's house for a Singaporean Nasi Lemak dinner. Joel was chasing the 2 cats around the whole time.
(Will upload video next time)

aunty visits

13 - 16 May 2010
Aunty Yen Yen, Uncle Simon, cousins Xan & Xavier's very short trip to Shanghai...

They arrived in the evening and we went for late dinner at XinTianDi. The next morning, we went to Cheng Huang Miao. It was raining and we left shortly after making some Chinese (name) stamps and buying Hangzhou Xihu LongJing tea.

We had lunch followed by shopping till the 2 boys got very very very tired... So, we had to dabao dinner home.

We bought a surprise birthday cake for Yen Yen in the morning. After that, we went to TianZiFang. All the 3 kids bought soft toys from this shop. It was from a Japanese designer Hiroshi Watanabe. Besides regular-looking "cutey" soft toys, they also had bears & rabbits with small heads & big bodies OR big heads & small bodies. Then it's yummy lunch at Haiku.

We headed to JiuGuang/Sogo to buy sunglasses. The kids got tired (again) and we had to go home before dinner. We had to order delivery dinner.

On their last day in Shanghai, the family decided to go to the Expo for half a day. I think Joel felt a little sad when they left for the airport...but he understood what was happening. He said repeatedly, "Airplane. Go home". After they left, we lazed at home till our yummy "yakitori" dinner at DaJi with Ann.

merry merry christmas

Christmas Eve & Joel's 2nd Birthday!
Rise & shine! Such a cute two year old boy! ;)

A parcel arrived from the US. Joel loves running around in his new home shoes!

Daddy reached Shanghai in the afternoon and we went out to have lunch and shop. We collected the set dinner we ordered from Masala Art before heading home in the evening.

Joel's Silent Night cake. No one noticed that the words 'Happy Birthday' are upside down!!! Hahaha... (Whoever put the tag up? Elvis?)

The gang who came to Joel's party! From left: Pick, Carol, Raymond, Mommy Jo, Daddy Elvis & Joel, Michelle & Ann.

Christmas Day
In the afternoon, Mommy & Daddy went out shopping (since Daddy is off today), leaving Joel with Ahyi. In the evening, we had Christmas dinner with some friends.

Boxing Day
We went to MiKids class in the morning. Joel received a set of crayons in the Christmas gift-exchange.

This is Roma, who likes to disturb Joel becoz Joel is scared of him. (He's also quite irritating lah... Keke!) -.-lll

This is Miller. He picked Joel's present in the gift-exchange! It's a Zara beanie and Winnie The Pooh stickers. He seemed more interested in the stickers though. Keke...

After Joel's class, we went shopping around XuJiaHui and then home to rest before going to FeiFei and 老Wu's house for dinner.

At FeiFei's... Joel's so naughty but so cute! Hahaha... ;p

it's boxing day

Time to open up your presents!

On Joel's birthday, he received a cool handmade scarf and his first copy of Playboy (!!!)magazine from Ann, and also a cool tile room tag from Michelle! It meant Baby's Room. ;)

Here's some pages inside his magazine... Keke... Cool, huh!

From Ann also is Laline essential oil diffuser from Pure Life (Check out the cool shop at 328 Nanchang Rd). It's so pretty!

From Daddy is this Mickey Mouse "toy" which he saw at the Hong Kong airport during transit. (It is solar-powered and Mickey's head sway from side to side. It's supposed to make one feel calm and relaxed. I dont think Joel will feel serene looking at it though. Haha!) Joel likes it and he carries it around, holding it by its ears. We didnt buy Joel any other gift becoz he still had unopened toys at home. Sorry, Joel.

On Christmas Day, Ken & Diana gave Joel this car set and the Shintori porcelain set is for us.

From BeeKheng in the US are these... It arrived on the morning of Xmas Eve. So timely! Yummy goodies for Mommy Jo and cool stuffs for Joel. Such cute monkey home shoes!

Here's wishing everyone a Merry Merry Christmas & A Happy Happy New Year! ;)

to the zoo

Before the wedding dinner, we went to the zoo with Aunty Sandra, Uncle Jerome and his pretty niece Sarah. (She said she is #2 prettiest in class)

It was a rare day that Joel sat inside his stroller. Of course, you can still see he has his Bear Bear and pacificer at all times. The weather was good - not too warm - becoz all of us prayed to God. (It has been raining everyday for the past week)

Sarah liked the elephant ride and the tram ride - the 2 reason she came to the zoo for. But the highlight of the zoo trip was the Water Play for both Sarah and Joel. Although Joel was timid and not well prepared (Mommy didnt bring Joel's swimsuit), he enjoyed "drinking" the water pretty much. Keke...

We went to VivoCity after the zoo to Build-A-Bear for Sarah's coming 6th birthday. The bear was named Stephanie who also likes pink - just like Sarah!

We got home 30 mins before we had to leave for the wedding...so i guess Joel was pretty tired that he slept till noon the next day. Haha! ;p
