becky & alynn visit shanghai

27 April - 9 May 2010
Becky & Alynn holiday in Shanghai and visits the Expo 2010...

27-28 April
The girls arrived in the late afternoon on Becky's birthday and we went to TianZiFang 田子坊 before having dinner at XinTianDi 新天地. The next day, we headed to H&M for our 1st-stop shopping followed by crazy wholesale shopping. We ended our hectic day with a lovely dinner at Shintori and finally a stroll to Edison's stylish Juice store.
29-30 April
All of us went to Hangzhou. It was a jinxed holiday - from traveling in an old old car (when it should have been a 7-seater), to only 1 room booked at the hostel, to a minor road accident, to difficulty in getting taxis around Hangzhou. We were all too glad when it was time to leave Hangzhou.

The beautiful West Lake 西湖 where we watched the sunset after we (finally) checked into another hostel...

We had dinner and shopped a bit at the touristy HeFangJie in Hangzhou.

The next day, we managed to book another driver home. This time, in a more comfortable car - but with a driver that drove too carefully (i.e. slowly) and is a little talkative. Next stop...enroute to WuZhen 乌镇 water village before going home.

Home Sweet Home! And just in time to watch the opening ceremony of the Expo 2010 on TV in the evening. We headed for BBQ dinner and home in time (again) to watch the fireworks from our balcony! It was pretty awesome.

1 May
It was the May Day holiday (1-4 May) but Daddy Elvis had to work over the long weekend. So Mommy Jo & Joel only accompanied Becky & Alynn half the day. We had dimsum followed by expensive shopping at ChangLe Road.

2 May
Shopping at XinLe Road... Daddy Elvis joined us for lunch at 3.Top before heading back to the office. Mommy Jo & Joel went home to rest.

3 May
We started the day at Pudong, Super Brands Mall. Daddy Elvis went to the office after lunch. We walked to "the other side of The Bund" and enjoyed some ice cream and the view. (It has started to get warmer, much to our dismay.)

We continued to the People's Square Park and MOCA. Here's Joel's very naughty face at the museum...becoz he wanted to pick the bits of clay (the installation art) from the floor. Somehow, he knew it was 'ART' and didnt dare to touch them. He kept asking Mommy to do it for him. Hahaha...

Daddy Elvis brought us for dinner at DongBeiRenJia 东北人家. Sosuke & wife joined us too. I think the girls will remember the yummy DongBei signature dessert we had. YUM!

4 May
First day of the Expo (with the Standard Day Ticket)! It was a long, tiring and freezing day.
(Pictures later in another post)

5 May
Mommy Jo & Joel took a break while Becky & Alynn went for another round of crazy wholesale shopping since it was raining (on their supposedly 2nd day of Expo), and they explored the artistic DuoLun Road too.

In the morning, Daddy Elvis decided to cut Joel's (girlish) hair before he went to work. Mommy Jo brought Joel to meet Daddy for lunch and we went to the gynae together. After the trip, we think Joel had a better understanding of Mommy's super big tummy. Joel calls it "meimei". *wink*
(But we'll have to wait till next month to confirm the gender of Joel's "meimei")
6 May
The girls continued with their 2nd day to the Expo. They managed to get the very-limited-&-reserved tickets to visit the China pavilion!!! (Distribution of tickets starts at 9am and they're usually snapped up within 20mins) They said the China pavilion was very good, one of the best!

7 May
Alynn went to her final/3rd day at the Expo in the morning. I brought Becky to the cool 1933 building. We met up with Alynn for lunch and did more crazy shopping for her niece. Becky couldnt resist buying some kids clothes too! Busted her budget again. Keke...

8 May
Brunch at the much-anticipated Le Petit Jardin aka The Secret Garden. The "non-set lunches" was a super long wait and Daddy Elvis had to leave for his meeting without his meal. We continued to XuJiaHui...but it was raining and we were all tired. So we went home to rest before dinner. It really felt like a super lazy Saturday. For dinner, Daddy Elvis brought us to YuanShiZhu 元世祖 for the yummy "Mongolian" steamboat.

9 May, Sunday - last day in Shanghai
We had dimsum brunch Crystal Jade (and last minute shopping at H&M) before Becky & Alynn headed for the airport. The rest of the day, Joel & Daddy Mommy went to HuaiHai Road, Sogo and Uncle Yang's house for a Singaporean Nasi Lemak dinner. Joel was chasing the 2 cats around the whole time.
(Will upload video next time)

thanks, astrid. i've put on almost 6kgs now and i'm "only" 17wks pregnant. i picked the photos which cant see my double chin and cheeks. HAHA! ;p

boys' clothes are so boring! but i realised Joel can wear his clothes for very long (i'm not complaining lah coz save $ too). if there's any of Joel's clothes you like, i can try to find the same in Noah/Johan sizes for you. ;)
