Sunday, Joel advanced to the 16-22mths play group at Gymboree. (He's 17.5mths now but becoz he wasnt walking steadily yet, the teachers decided to keep him at the 10-16mths group)

He doesnt seem to like it as much as his old group. Maybe coz he doesnt know any of the kids. Of course, it also require them to do "stunts" which he hasnt mastered yet. Plus he doesnt follow instructions!

Last week, we let him attend his FIRST Music session (for 16-22mths). It was also with unfamiliar kids and teacher. He also didnt follow instructions. ;p

Hmmm...let me recall...

The teacher does the singing. I dont remember any dancing but parents have to lift their kids and do some actions (just like in the play class). The teacher will go to each of the kid and ask them to do something. Eg. shaking those "music shakers", hitting the xylophone (only 2 notes), say 'BA' into the microphone, do the actions for Twinkle Twinkle Little Stars...

For the play class, the session was 'Loud & Quiet'. Eg. They're told to hit the balls on the hard & soft surfaces to hear the different sounds. They also walk around in a big circle stomping their feet hard and then softly.

He wasnt even cooperative in those activities that he normally like. -.-lll

but joel dun cry when others carry him rite? Does he play with other kids? Do you mingle with the kids mum in his play gym btw?

Bao will cry when a stranger carry him u know...and only when the person left then he say auntie or say bye bye..he will cling tight to us also...unless its someone whom he knows...last time when he younger he smile at every person he sees..esp in the lift..he will look at them n make sure they look at him n then flash his smile...a bit paiseh when he does dat and the person does not want to look at him..

Now he cries when strangers get too close to him. And he doesnt seem to like old folks...he will cry w/o fail.

No, we're not friends with the other parents in the play group. But there's a few who will make small talk with us. JunJun's parents is one of them. We just realised that Joel & JunJun are 4 months apart! Coz JunJun is taller. ;p

how come hor..and then some relatives labelled Bao as a crybaby...n compare him with the others who are not....I read from books that we as pars cannot label them shy etc. or else they will get worse...so we must not pass such comments abt them..i am trying to make a constant effort to ignore wat others say and just try to pacify bao when he cry...

I am abit unsure abt bringing Bao to a play class..cos he may just go snatch another kid toys and refuse to give in...he can be very overbearing and will be paiseh when the pars are all there...and also i am rather lost on wat small talk to talk abt with the pars...:P

Tell them its 'stages'...not coz they're difficult or crybaby.

Maybe u can try to bring Bao to Fidgets. I heard it's fun. Pay per entry. So dont need to be bogged down by a package deal.

Dont need to think of what to say to other parents. Usually, everyone will auto start to ask "How old is your kid?" Haha...
