neon kids place

If you ever come shopping in Shanghai, you'll have to visit NiHong for kids! (It's actually Neon Kids Place) It's at PuAn/JingLing Roads and is an underground shopping "mall"! Everyone goes there - even the very rich angmoh expats with drivers waiting for them outside. It's very near to HuaiHai Road, but we only knew of this place after we had Joel. If you dont have kids, you wont even know this street exist! It's a "big boss" who told us to go there, and fyi, they live in huge villa.

There's LOTS of clothes for babies and toddlers. However, there's very little selection for young children. Here, you'll really shop till you drop! Some are factory rejects with slight defects (randomly), some are just extras from the factories, some are fakes (eg. the fake "Polo Ralph Lauren" & "Burberry" polos & dresses selling in Spore which i wont recommend firstly coz it's fake and coz it can be quite obvious or of bad quality). Most clothes are made for export, so you might find some really nice pieces! Just bring more cash - esp if you have girls! Keke... ;p

Most of Joel's clothes are from Neon. You might wanna check out Neon's prices (below). We're not the kind of parents who spend lots of money on baby clothes. Joel's most expensive clothes is probably the GAP winter coat Elvis bought from Tokyo. (But do plan a trip here before your kid gets "too big" coz the variety gets lesser)

Most children clothes here comes in Japanese sizes for babies 70, 80, 90...then it's 95, 100, 105, 110, 115, 120. (Hint: If you're a petite lady, you can also wear size 130-150) I've realized that Japanese sizes "save more money". Coz from size 80 to 90, you can wear them for a year. Unlike US/Euro sizes, it jumps 1 size up every 3 or 6 mths. At H&M, you'll realize that their sizes are NB, 2-4mths, 4-6mths, 6-9mths, 9-12mths... then it jumps to 12-18mths, 18-24mths... That means for a baby up to 1 year old, you'll have to buy FIVE sizes of clothes! That's a lot of $ to spend!

Japanese Sizing / Australian Sizing
70 : up to 6 months old, 70cm tall, 9kg / Between 00* & 0
80 : up to 1 year old, 80cm tall, 11kg / Between 0* & 1
90 : up to 2 years old, 90cm tall, 13kg / Between 1* & 2
95 : up to 3 years old, 95cm tall, 14kg / Between 2* & 3

Helpful Hints when shopping for children
- For babies and toddlers, weight is the best size determinant
- For children, height is the best determinant
- Check for special sizing suggestions within each product description
- Match Accessory sizes to clothing sizes
- Keep in mind, some accessories come in OSA's (one size fits all)
- Having doubts, DON'T BUY!

P.S. I also realized that Uniqlo now carries clothes for BABIES! So cute!

Ya, the other day i went to look at the red shoes...but i'll wait till Joel grows bigger. Actually, he has out-grown all his shoes...and 2 pairs lost (1 side). Only have the green highcut now. So poor thing - esp when his mom & dad are shoe-crazed folks! Haha! ;p
